I chose this article because it directly aligns with what my clients go through. Women, people of color, minority groups, and immigrants have all experienced some level of hate throughout their lives. Hate for minorities is not a recent phenomenon; it has persisted for centuries. I believe that by gaining a deeper understanding of hate, we can develop strategies to cope with it. While my ultimate goal is to eradicate hate, it is challenging to advocate for its elimination while actively experiencing it.
I want to begin with the things I also align within this article. I agree that hate is just misunderstanding and fear wearing a mask. I also agree that education is key to combating hate, whether that be educating children about the other identity or celebrating diverse cultures, so that we are able to foster understanding and shape attitudes with the new generation.
What I would like to see emphasized more in this article are the experiences of individuals who endure hate. How can we better support them? How can we advocate on their behalf? Is it the responsibility of minorities and those facing hatred to educate and persuade others not to fear them?
What do you think about this article or the questions I posed ? Leave your thoughts in the comments :)
