Get to know my voice and style, learn why I wanted to start a blog and find out what to expect going forward!

Hello! Welcome to Healing with Help Counseling! My name is Julie, and I will be your thera-sis throughout this journey. What is a "thera-sis"? Think of it as a therapist big sister, here to empower you and support you in all things mental health and counseling. You get the best of both worlds! Knowledge and empathy of a therapist, but without the uncomfortable chair and stoic demeanor. Compassion and helpfulness of a sister, but without the judgment, screaming fights, and stealing of clothes. And if you're comfortable, we can hug when things get tough <3

I wanted my first blog post to be a sort of introduction to what's to come and to showcase my blogging style. I want to preface that I am in no way a writer (spelling, grammar, verb tense, etc., have never been my strengths). What I do excel at is conversation, talking, and overall yapping. I intend these blog posts to be casual and in my own voice (if you haven't already noticed). There will be times when some of my posts have a more formal tone, but those are usually surrounding more informative topics. Sometimes I will be speaking to my audience as if they were clients, and other times I may shift my audience as if they were other therapists. This is intentional due to the space that I want to create here in my blog. I explain further down below. Now let's get into why I wanted to start a blog and what to expect!

Why I wanted to start a blog :

As I said before, I have a talent for connecting through speech. (Clearly, my career in talk therapy was no accident, but I digress.) With the right person, I can talk, compare, contrast, debate, define, etc., about one topic for hours. That's why I love counseling; you delve deep into whatever topic, problem, or situation you're going through and try to understand it and figure out its root. Counseling and the relationship you have with your client is such a dynamic dance already, so that's why I find such interest in conversations about how others approach relationships with their clients and common symptoms we find within the field. The one caveat to counseling is that it's only you in the room with the client, you can't debrief or share your feelings afterward which can get lonely. That's why I wanted to create a space where I could chat about my feelings and ideas around counseling so it felt like I was speaking to a community. That's why I feel it's so important to speak in my own voice, not only so you get to know me, but so it feels like I'm having a conversation.

What to Expect:

I wanted to give an idea of what's to come. My Insights page is where you can find anything to do with my blog plus some other surprises. My categories are Blog Posts, My Favorite Posts, and Resources. In my Blog Post section, you'll find all my original works discussing a range of educational and mental health topics, like this one. In the My Favorite Posts section, you'll find work from others that I find to be important, informative, or enjoyable. In my Resources section, you'll find any available resources I find that can be helpful for clients, therapists, or others. These works will either be of my own creation or works I found from others that could be beneficial to anyone :)

I'm exciting to get to conversing with all of you! Feel free to comment and introduce yourself and any topics you would find interesting to hear about :)

Your Thera-Sis, Julie
